A time-in-motion study is a process of recording activities performed over a set period. This is different from a job plan but may be helpful in determining the average time an activity takes to complete or the frequency at which it happens. This type of study usually happens within AHP staffing groups or similar and happens in real time.
A job plan is a prospective, professional agreement describing each AHP staff member’s duties, responsibilities, accountabilities, and objectives. You would not complete a time-in-motion study instead of a job plan and visa-versa, but you may do this to determine how accurate a job plan is.
Below is an example, of the schedule of activities that are part of a job plan:
NOTE: The job plan will provide an average number of predicted hours per week where the time-in-motion study records the amount of time that is happening.
