Activities – What are the Categories?

Modified on Mon, 15 Jul, 2024 at 2:52 PM

There can be dozens (if not hundreds) of activities available for you to select so this is made much shorter by using filters such as Categories and Types which narrow the number of activities that are displayed. Categories is the primary filter which will narrow down the number of Types of activity that will be displayed in the next filter.

The Categories are matched to contractual requirements as in the case on Consultants and Speciality and Associated Specialist doctors. Or the Categories are based around a mix of NHSE/I recommendations, organisational preferences, and local/speciality requirements as with the Agenda for Change contract.

NOTE:

If an organisation is job plan both Agenda for Change and Doctor staffing groups, then the Categories usually remain either the same or very similar which assists with reporting and continuity.

Categories:

Direct Clinical Care (DCC) – work directly relating to the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of illness.

Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) – activities that underpin Direct Clinical Care.

Additional NHS Responsibilities (ANR) – special responsibilities which are not undertaken as part of Supporting Professional Activities.

External Duties – These might include trade union duties, undertaking inspections, work for Royal Colleges etc.

Time off – This may be related to regular non-working days, lunch breaks or any other regular time off arrangements (not linked to annual leave, statutory bank holidays or training).

Medical School – formal teaching arrangements.

Private Practice – also referred to as Practising Privileges.

Fee Paying Services – any paid professional services, other than those falling within the definition of Private Professional Services
